Riding the Polar Express is an anticipated holiday tradition. The Denver-area Polar Express is pretty much sold out, so head to Durango for the same classic experience!

Every fall, the historic Durango and Silverton Train transforms into the idyllic Polar Express — the magical train from the classic picture book and 2004 hit film. From November 17 through January 2, don your pajamas and hop a ride on the Polar Express, where the movie comes to life with a conductor, hot chocolate and treats, and a memorable visit to see Santa at the North Pole.

Just like in the movie, concessionaires in full garb will serve passengers delicious cookies and warm hot chocolate while the story is read over the sound system. And upon arrival at the beautifully lit North Pole, Santa and his helpers will wave and greet the train, distributing special gifts to “all who believe.” Then, the merry trip back to Durango will feature the festive singing of Christmas carols. It’s the holiday trip of a lifetime!

Fun for all ages, the Polar Express offers several different ticket options — Standard/Coach Class, Deluxe Class, and First Class. Deluxe Class tickets allow groups of passengers to face one another (if desired) and also include a souvenir mug. First Class is more of a dining car style, with tables and tons of leg room, in addition to the souvenir mug and another special souvenir.

Ticket fares vary from $32 to $81 for adults, and $22 to $71 for children, depending on the date of travel. Click here for ticket information. There are also special lodging packages available for those coming from out of town! Click here to book your travel package!
