A Harry Potter Version of Pokémon Go Is Coming in 2018, and We’re Geeking Out!
Wands at the ready! The creators of Pokémon Go have announced the launch of a Harry Potter augmented reality game that’s coming in 2018!
Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed the Harry Potter augmented reality (AR) game will be in 2018 with the launch of the game’s official website. You can sign up here to get further updates about the mobile game. The game will be called “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite,” and is currently in development under the appropriately named Portkey Games, a new WB Games studio, which will be supported by Niantic (the creators of Pokémon Go).
Niantic said in a press release,
With ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite,’ players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.”
While the details have yet to be revealed, it sounds like the mechanics of the game will translate really well in the Harry Potter universe. Through the use of state-of-the-art AR technology, users will be able to “explore real-world neighborhoods and cities to discover mysterious artifacts, learn to cast spells, and encounter legendary beats and iconic characters along the way!”
So, basically, we’re all going to be wizards and witches, guys! FINALLY.
I’ve been waiting for a game like this since, well, forever! I’m just hoping that it will include iconic locations like Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley, among others.
What do you guys think of the new game? Are you going to play it as religiously as you did Pokémon Go? (And don’t lie, because we know you did.) Also, what aspects of the Harry Potter books/movies are you wanting to be incorporated into the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to board a train to 2018, because I cannot wait for this game!
