October is breast cancer awareness month. Prestige Fitness is partnering with Susan G Komen to help Denver sweat for a cure.

Do you know what the number one thing you can do to prevent breast cancer is? According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s actually getting into healthy habits and breaking the unhealthy ones you’re still carrying around! That means quitting smoking, cutting back on sugar, eating more greens and less junk food, and lowering alcohol consumption. It also means drinking more water, finding stress relief techniques and, perhaps most importantly, developing healthy exercise habits.

To help promote healthy habits and raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, local gym Prestige Fitness is promoting their Sweat for a Cure deals all Pinktober long. We sat down with Joe, the owner of Prestige, and asked why this cause matters so much to him and his business.

We want to prescribe a healthy lifestyle and also provide a safe, healthy environment in our positive fitness community for those who are struggling.” – Joe, Prestige Fitness

Joe also told us about his own struggle with skin cancer, which is less aggressive but draining nonetheless. He elected not to name the employee but did tell us that the gym has another deep connection to the cause through an employee suffering with breast cancer.

During the whole month of October, Prestige is offering a special pass. You can get a 14-day pass for only $10, and every single cent of that $10 fee goes straight to Susan G. Komen for research. They’re also hosting a Sweat For the Cure event on October 28 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The class is for 1.5 hours and is sure to be filled with fun, food and prizes! Sweat for the Cure comes with a minimum donation of $10, which also goes straight to Susan G. Komen Colorado.
