If you have been to Morrison, Colorado, it’s more than likely you’ve seen a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater and park. If not, you should rethink your life choices and buy tickets to see something there ASAP, seriously anything, don’t wait, you can thank me later. Music acts of every genre from all over the world play there each season; always bringing their A+ game, and experimenting with new stage shows or wandering in new artistic directions. This year’s Pretty Lights Live – An Episodic Tail was that and more!! Attendees got their moneys worth and then some. With a beefed up laser/light show and an all-star accompanying band PLUS the acoustics of RR, made for another one-of-a-kind PL show.
It was also a preview to the Pretty Lights Festival in Telluride, Colorado! Going down August 26th-27th, this show promises to achieve new levels of musical mastery with the backdrop of the San Juan, Mountain Range. Seeing this show in the most beautiful town in Colorado is going to change everything, forever! If you have ever been to Telluride you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, you better be going to this must-experience event.
Chris Karns opened up Saturday at RR with a solo DJ set and some impromptu turntablism. It lit the crowd on fire and got everyone bouncing for the rest of the night. Supervision came out and kept the party going, until it was time for the main event. Derek Vincent Smith, along with especially talented and amazing Brian Coogan, Borahm Lee, Alvin Ford Jr. and Chris Karns took their places. The first song they played, right out the gate – Pretty lights – Time Remix (Pink Floyd)
So, this is my all-time favorite remix. Lasers shot in all directions and every single person at RR started going H.A.M. I mean, everyone started to move. Everyone. The audience, event staff, me and other photographers, beer tub guys…. I have been to a lot of shows at RR in my life, this was not just a show, this was a family affair.
Every person within earshot stopped what they were doing to get down to this monster of all remixes. I never wanted it to end. Derek made it personal. You could FEEL everything as you danced to the alien like laser experience to out of this world songs. All I can say is well done. This weekend is Pretty Lights in Telluride, Colorado. An experience to see the best from Colorado perform in the best of Colorado. Stay tuned for a show like none other, Telluride, here we come!
